What Typing Games is

Typing Games is a browser-based typing tutor and typing test platform. It started as a classroom tool — lessons, classes, rosters, and a teacher's view of who is practising — and grew a public side anyone can use without a class or a teacher.

The engine is the product

Every game mode and every plain typing test runs on the same underlying engine: it captures keystrokes, diffs each character against the expected text, and times everything with a real clock rather than counting frames. Nothing about scoring is decorative — words-per-minute, accuracy and consistency are computed the same way whether you're taking a 30-second test or fighting a wave of zombies.

Nothing is trusted from the browser

A typing site is an easy thing to cheat at — paste the text, or fake a result. This one is built around a specific rule: the server never trusts a number the client sends. Instead, the client records every keystroke as a timestamped event and sends the whole log. The server replays it from scratch — character by character, with the same timing — and computes the score itself. If a submitted result doesn't match what the replay produces, it's flagged rather than recorded as a clean run.

That's also why a duel or a tournament round gives both sides the exact same words, generated from a shared seed rather than each player getting their own sample: two runs are only comparable if they raced the same text.

Who built it, and why it's free

Typing Games is built and maintained by a small team, originally for a specific school's ICT and BSIT classes. It's free to use because a typing tutor that costs money is a typing tutor most students won't bother with. The site is supported in part by advertising — see the privacy policy for what that means for your data.
